Ledger CTO Questions Quantum Risk Assessment for Bitcoin

Charles Guillemet, CTO of Ledger, disputes the assertion that only about 30% of Bitcoin (BTC) is at risk from quantum computing, arguing that this view is overly simplistic.

He notes that while Glassnode data indicates 30.2% of BTC has exposed spending public keys, many unexposed keys may still exist in various forms, such as xpubs and backups.

Guillemet references research from Google Quantum AI, suggesting that potential attacks on the secp256k1 algorithm could occur in approximately 9 minutes with future quantum computers.
